Winter recap: basketball teams 2-2 in conference final games

In both levels of basketball—junior varsity and varsity—both boys and girls teams made their way to the championship games this winter.

In their championship game, the boys junior varsity team faced the St. Anselms Panthers in a game where the Lions were the underdog. The Lions brought the competition down to the wire, but could not pull the game out.

The girls varsity team, a youthful team with no senior members, fought their way to the championship game at Trinity College where they faced the Grace Brethren Eagles. In a close match, the Lions lost by 4, but they should be right back in it as the whole team returns for the 2004-2005 campaign.

Championship games were not all ill-fated for the Lions this season. The boys varsity team, unlike the girls team, was able to make that final step at Trinity College where they were matched up against the Washington International School Red Devils, the team to which the Lions had lost earlier in the season. In a fast-paced thriller, the Lions sent their seniors off to Israel with another championship banner.

The girls junior varsity team also shocked the PVAC. Starting off 0-4, the Lions meandered their way through the season, finishing 5-5 and obtaining a playoff spot. In the playoffs, the girls could not be stopped as they went on to win the championship.
