of the Season
by Justin Schecker and
David Steinberg
Middle school and
high school students performed in the third annual Improvapella concert
on Dec. 21. Though the Improv Comedy Troupe did not perform, the show
featured performances by a number of musical groups.
Performers included
the new high school womens a capella choir and the high school and
middle school a capella choirs. In addition, the exclusively senior Third
Free Period Band performed.
We didnt
feel that the Improv team had enough experience to perform this year,
said Deutsch-Feldman, a member of the Improv comedy troupe.
Im excited
that the choir program has grown enough that we can put on a show by ourselves,
choir director Karen Pang said.
Middle school choir
director Rebecca Harrington said, I thought it went really well,
and I was proud of the kids.
The performers shared
their anxiety and enthusiasm. Eighth-grader Amy Easton, a member of the
middle school choir said, It was really nerve-wracking, but really
fun.
About a month later,
high school music students performed at the third annual Winter Concert
on Jan. 25.
Freshmen Ethan Oser
and Max Gelfond opened up the show with a guitar duo, performing Thelonious
Monks Straight No Chaser and Cleo Henrys Boblicity.
Senior trombone player
Jacob Berman performed at the concert on his last day of classes at JDS.
It was a great
experience and it was a great cap off to a really amazing day. Even though
I was really tired and I had been in school since very early in the morning,
it was still great to go out with a bang like that.
