On Student Council
by William Gutterman and Ben Witten

Dear loyal students,

Your Student Council is glad to report to you once again. Things have been great. The winter has been hotter than Marissa’s sister from The OC and we have been quite busy. The Redskins had a good run, and hey, there are always the 18-20 Wizards. Also, Georgetown beat Duke! It’s been an exciting couple of months.

Homecoming was a huge success, with more than 150 people attending.

We have made generous donations to both the Ronald McDonald House and Magen David Adom.In case you were wondering, the Ronald McDonald House is not a fancy way to say McDonald’s, and the Student Council is not using charity money to buy unkosher Quarter Pounders with Cheese, no pickles.

Thanks to our informative and reflective class meetings, we were able to have a movie night with a movie picked by you, the students. Because most classes suggested that Anchorman be shown, it was, and the night was extremely fun. Thank you to all who attended. And no, it was not just Student Council officers who came. They didn’t come either.

We plan on having another class meeting in the future in order to discuss more prospective events. Remember, you can always e-mail us at studentcouncil@cesjds.org or visit our Web site at http://studentcouciljds.bravehost.com.

Many people have asked us about Spirit Day. The Student Council decided that it would be more fun for all of the students if the occasion would be later in the year, possibly around Purim or maybe spring break. We will keep everyone informed of any developments.

Last month we also hosted a community outreach event. We attached chocolate bars to more than 100 unique student-made holiday cards for all of the houses adjacent to our school. Our neighbors are so kind for putting up with us, a card and some chocolate was the least we could do.

With the past behind us, we can move to the future. On Feb. 13, from 4-6, the Student Council will be hosting a Battle of the Bands after school. This event is sure to be a lot of fun, as bands representing every high school grade will be performing, including ENA. Come support your grade. If you are in a band and are interested in performing, contact the Student Council.

The Student Council would like to officially wish the entire class of 2006 goodbye. We’re sure you will all have a great time in Eastern Europe and Israel and we wish you happiness and health. Wherever you go to school afterwards, it probably isn’t Harvard, so have a nice life.
We hope everyone has a great second semester—and guess what—spring break is only like 12 weeks away.
