Lion's Tale News Update: May 6, 2002

Campaign aims to help Jews in Argentina
In response to the growing economic crisis in Argentina, a group of students organized the Scholem Aleichem Campaign, to increase awareness and raise money for the Jewish Argentinian community, where many families are living well below the poverty line.

Tuition increase raises parent concern
The recently announced tuition increase for the 2002-2003 academic year is raising concern among several parents, since it will raise this year’s tuition by nine percent in the Lower School and by 13 percent in the Upper School, one year after the Upper School tuition was raised by eleven percent.


Simmons’ “Odd Girl Out” an ‘in’ topic
 

Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls, the debut book by alumnus Rachel Simmons (’92), presents the case that girls are supposed to be level-headed, considerate and compassionate. They are then faced with a problematic dilemma in dealing with their anger.

Fulfilling mission, fostering commitment to people of Israel

With Israel at war, the school has finally pulled through. In the Dec.12 issue of The Lion’s Tale, we called on the administration to “adequately address” issues regarding the status of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and of Israel as a state. The administration and staff have done just that.

BVB finds success with new head coach

Entering this season with a new head coach and many new players on the team, the boys varsity baseball team will have to continue playing to its utmost potential in order to maintain the early season success they have had, after a 5-2 record in the PVAC.
