Response ‘leaves something to be desired’ April 30, 2002Joanne Silberg

The way in which this school has handled all of the events resulting from
September 11th leaves something to be desired for the students.
I know I was physically, mentally, and emotionally frightened after seeing
the two most prominent towers in New York fall, and hearing that the heart
of our military and the symbol of our strength was attacked. My sense of
security and freedom had been shaken. The needs of the students to speak
their mind about the national tragedy that they had just experienced were
completely ignored.
The students needed help, we needed understanding, and if nothing else, we
needed a chance to just talk, to have a class discussion.
I personally believe that the way that JDS has handled this difficult time
was without appropriate regard for the needs of the students.
