Defender of truth June 10, 2002
Dan Rather said, “The dream begins, most of the time, with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you on to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth.”
For 17 years, first as a rabbinics teacher whose office was next door to that of the Lion’s Tale and eventually in his role as principal, Rabbi Reuven Greenvald has supported and encouraged The Lion’s Tale to, above all else, report the truth.
Even when the paper published articles that were less than flattering of his decisions, Greenvald never wavered in his belief that giving students the opportunity to responsibly exercise their first amendment rights is the best training for producing competent citizens of a democratic society.
Rabbi Greenvald is a true teacher and friend. We wish him the best of luck in all his endeavors.
We hope his quest for truth will remain alive inside the principal’s office, regardless of its occupant.
